CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. --
Marines and sailors with 2nd Marine Logistics Group took the pitch during the unit’s field meet here, May 1.
Servicemembers with 2nd MLG had the opportunity to compete against each other in sports, such as flag football, soccer and volleyball.
“It’s tremendous to see everyone out here today,” said Brig. Gen. Edward D. Banta, the commanding general of 2nd MLG. “We are working hard and have a lot going on in the MLG. We have an opportunity to take a break from that, to build a little camaraderie and spirit in the field of sport.”
Music was blasted across the field as troops socialized and competed on and off the field.
“Three things …” said Master Chief Petty Officer Russell W. Folley, the command master chief of 2nd MLG. “One … you are not in your workshop. Two … you get to eat free chow. Three … you get to talk smack.”
Various companies and battalions put up their best individuals to represent their units to claim bragging rights against each other.
“My favorite part was getting with a bunch of guys I don’t know and coming together to compete in a sport,” said Lance Cpl. Daniel A. Hernandez, a finance technician with Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group.
Servicemembers laughed and exchanged competitive words as each game became more intense.
“I enjoyed all the camaraderie and opportunity the Marine Corps has given us to come out here and compete against one another,” said Hernandez, a St. Louis, Miss., native. “This is the first meet I have [participated in] and I am really enjoying it.”
The winning units were recognized on their competitive skills and teamwork. After each sport had its championship round, they proved who the best on the field were.
Combat Logistics Regiment 25 won the volleyball and tug-of-war championships. 8th Engineer Support Battalion won the flag football and soccer championships and 2nd Dental Battalion won the softball and basketball championships.
With the overall conclusion CLR-25 won the field meet, and took the fields of sport by total domination.

As a Marine and FRO, I have to say this was a great event! Camaraderie = Good times! Competition fuels the competitive, warrior spirit in our Marines and Sailors! And, team sports held us work on our teamwork skills. Did any else see that bucket on the buzzer during the basketball tourney! That was #ESPN!
