LtCol Zachary N. Embers

LtCol Embers is originally from Kansas and enlisted into the Navy in May 2000. He deployed on board the
USS ENTERPRISE CVN 65 as a supply clerk (SK) in summer 2001, departing the command to attend Naval
Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI. SK2 Embers then attended the U.S. Naval Academy and
graduated with a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering in 2006 and was commissioned a Second
Lieutenant.


Upon completion of The Basic School, Lieutenant Embers attended Ground Logistics Officers Course at Camp
Johnson, NC. Lieutenant Embers' first assignment was with 5th Bn, 11th Marines serving as the Maintenance
Management Officer first, then as the Logistics Officer. In 2009, Lieutenant Embers was transferred to 1st Bn,
4th Marines at Camp Pendleton where he served until 2011 as the Battalion Landing Team S-4 Officer. During
this time, he deployed with BLT 1/4 on 15 MEU for WESTPAC 10-1.


Captain Embers then transferred to MWSS-471 in 2011 for Inspector-Instructor duty as a Detachment OIC in
Johnstown, PA. During this time, Captain Embers participated in Exercise New Horizons Belize 2013 and
completed his Masters in Business Administration from Penn State World Campus. He then transferred to
Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in 2014.


Following EWS, Captain Embers transferred to 13 MEU CE in 2015 where he served as the Assistant Logistics
Officer until May 2016 when he assumed the role of Logistics Officer for his remaining year with the command.
During this time, 13 MEU deployed for WESTPAC 18-2. Major Embers then briefly served as the Operations
Officer for CLB-13 in summer of 2017 before being selected by 1st MLG to serve as the G-3 Current Operations
Officer for one year. Major Embers completed his final year with 1st MLG as Executive Officer for 1st
Maintenance Battalion.


Maj Embers then transferred to the Naval War College in 2019 for College of Naval Command and Staff and
Maritime Advanced Warfighting School (MAWS). Following completion of MAWS in 2020, Major Embers
was assigned as the III MEF G-5 Pacific Plans and Japan Bilateral planner in Okinawa, Japan until Fall of 2022.
LtCol Embers personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal gold star in lieu of third award, the Navy
and Marine Corps Commendation Medal gold star in lieu of second award, and the Defense Cooperation Medal
(2nd class) from the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force.
