Sergeant Major Marcos R. Gonzalez

Sergeant Major Marcos R. Gonzalez was born on 29 November 1980 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1999 out of Brownsville, Texas and graduated recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California in August 1999.

Through September 1999 to February 2000, Private First Class Gonzalez attended Marine Combat Training in Camp Pendleton, California, Aviation Structural Mechanic (Hydraulics & Structures) Common Course A1 in Pensacola, Florida and Intermediate Hydraulic School in Lemoore, California where he was awarded the 6062 MOS and was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

Lance Corporal Gonzalez reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36, 1st Marine Air Wing, MCAS Futenma, Japan in February 2000 for duty as an “I” level Hydraulic Technician and a Squadron Marksmanship Instructor. He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal in December 2000 and shortly after deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served as a Collateral Duty Inspector.

In February 2002, Corporal Gonzalez returned to the United States and reported to Marine Air Group 42, Naval Air Station, Atlanta Georgia. In November 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as the Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative, the MAG-42 Group Color Sergeant, and a Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor.

Sergeant Gonzalez reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Japan in July of 2004. He deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to Al Asad Iraq in support of OIF II from August 2004 to April 2005. Sergeant Gonzalez returned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 where he served as a Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative, Quality Assurance Representative, and a Corporals Course Instructor until February of 2007.

Sergeant Gonzalez reported to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit, Oceana, Naval Air Station Oceana VA in March 2007 for duty as a “C” School Instructor. He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in November 2007. During his tour, Staff Sergeant Gonzalez served as the Chief Instructor for the Airframes division, Instructor Evaluator, and the SNCOIC for Student Control.

In February of 2010, Staff Sergeant Gonzalez reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, 2d Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point for duty as the Production Control SNCOIC, Maintenance Training Chief, and Deputy Family Readiness Officer. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in August 2013.

Gunnery Sergeant Gonzalez reported to the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Quantico, Virginia in March 2014 where he served as a Faculty Advisor for the Career School and Chief Faculty Advisor for the Advanced School. In January of 2017, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.

First Sergeant Gonzalez’s senior enlisted assignments include: Company F at 2d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Regiment, Company F and Headquarters and Service Company at 2d Battalion 4th Marines, 5th Marine Regiment, Headquarters and Service Company at Combat Logistics Battalion 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, and Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division.

Sergeant Major Gonzalez was promoted to his current rank in January 2022 and is currently serving as the 2d Transportation Battalion Sergeant Major.

On June 16, 2023, Sergeant Major Gonzalez was relieved of his duties at 2d Transportation Battalion and is now serving as the Sergeant Major of Combat Logistics Regiment 2.
