Command Senior Enlisted Leader, 2nd Maintenance Battalion
Sergeant Major Jeffrey L Palmer

SgtMaj Palmer is a native of Ottumwa, Iowa, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 1998. He completed recruit training in February of 1999 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot at San Diego where he was meritoriously promoted to PFC for graduating as squad leader and reported to Camp Pendleton for Marine Combat Training. Upon completion, PFC Palmer was assigned to 29 Palms for training as a Crypto & Circuit Card Repair Technician. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in December 1999.   In December 1999, LCpl Palmer received orders to ELMACO in Okinawa, Japan. During his tour he served as a Circuit Card Repair Technician. 
 
In December of 2000, he received orders to CSSG-1 in 29 Palms. While at CSSG-1, LCpl Palmer was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and Sergeant.  He was then placed in the billet of Platoon Sergeant.  Sergeant Palmer served as Company Commander for two, three-day field operations in preparation for an upcoming OIF deployment. In January of 2003, Sergeant Palmer deployed to Iraq as a part of CSSB-10 where he served as Rear Area Security Sergeant for the Battalion. Upon completion of his tour in Iraq, Sergeant Palmer returned to 29 Palms and separated upon his EAS in November of 2003.
While outside of the active duty ranks, Jeff Palmer started his civilian career as a Branch Manager for US Bank in Ottumwa, IA. In December of 2005 Jeff Palmer received a promotion to Area Manager followed by a promotion to Relationship Manager and Vice President for Elavon, a division of US Bank in March of 2006. In July 2006, the IRR selected Jeff Palmer to Staff Sergeant Palmer.  In March of 2009, Jeff Palmer helped start an energy efficiency company and worked there until his return to active duty in June of 2011.  


In June of 2011, Staff Sergeant Palmer reported into Electronics Maintenance Technician Course before checking in to H&S Squadron, Iwakuni, Japan in March of 2012. While in Iwakuni, Staff Sergeant Palmer served as Telephone Chief for the Base Telephone Office and conducted MCMAP training for over 500 Marines, sailors and soldiers.  In January of 2014, Staff Palmer was tasked with reorganizing and rewriting the curriculum for Corporals Course - Iwakuni, where he also served as SNCOIC. In July of 2014, Staff Sergeant Palmer received orders to recruiting duty.  He served as a recruiter and a RSS SNCOIC for 15 months.  After success in both positions, Staff Sergeant Palmer took a command billet as MEPS Liaison for a failing MEPS.  Over the next 18 months Staff Sergeant Palmer turned it into the District MEPS of the year.  He was also recognized by the Army Staff for serving as Family Readiness officer.  In July of 2017 Staff Sergeant Palmer was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.


In September of 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Palmer received orders to 2d Maintenance Battalion, with ELMACO, where he assumed the role as Company First Sergeant. In March of 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Palmer assumed the billet as Corporals Leadership School director where he mentored 927 Corporals, 1023 Lance Corporals and 92 Sergeants.  In June of 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Palmer assumed the billet of Company First Sergeant of ELMACO.  During this time he attended the senior Legal Leaders Course, acted as the President for the SNCO Club aboard Camp Lejeune, and was an Adjunct Faculty for Career School/Sergeant Seminar Program of the College Distance Education and Training Command and currently serves in this roll out of the MCI-East Region.


In February of 2021, Gunnery Sergeant Palmer was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and assumed his role as Company First Sergeant for MARCENT aboard MacDill AFB and stood up Task Force 19 a Senior Enlisted Engagement Team with Partner Nations in the middle east.  He also attended the Air Force Senior Enlisted Academy and was a Distinguished graduate. In June of 2023, First Sergeant Palmer assumed his roles as Bravo Company First Sergeant for 2D LAR and remains their currently. Sergeant Major Palmer's personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two stars, Army Achievement Medal, Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
