SETERMOEN, NORWAY, – U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Zachary Posey, an engineer equipment mechanic with Combat Logistics Battalion 6, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, was selected as the 2nd MLG Warrior of the Week, Jan.29, 2026.

Posey’s command selected him as the warrior of the week for his performance, dedication to duty, and leadership while motivating his peers and junior Marines to maintain peak physical fitness despite harsh arctic conditions. Posey is currently deployed to Norway for exercise Cold Response 26.

Exercise Cold Response 26 is a Norwegian-led winter military exercise designed to enhance collective defense capabilities and ensure U.S. readiness to rapidly deploy and operate seamlessly alongside NATO Allies in challenging arctic conditions.

Engineer equipment mechanics perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel engines, gasoline engines, and diesel-driven construction equipment. Also, under their area of expertise is material handling equipment, earth-moving equipment, construction equipment, and other engine-driven or towed equipment are also under the care of this specialty.

Posey is the most senior engineer equipment mechanic deployed with CLB-6, making him the definitive subject matter expert for the unit, requiring a wealth of knowledge and experience.

“I don’t have an option, if not me then who?” said Posey when asked what drives him to perform at a high level. “I like things done a certain way, that’s proficient and executed well.”

Posey is currently acting as a maintenance chief for CLB-6, a billet typically held by staff non-commissioned officers. Being in a position of importance that has a direct impact on the readiness of the battalion requires a high degree of confidence.

Posey said, “[A billet for staff non-commissioned officer] pushes you to be near perfect, because the people I’m working with are all officers or senior enlisted who’ve been in a while with a lot of experience, and I don’t want to be the one who messes up. It forces me to perform at a high level, learn rapidly, and execute diligently.”

The arctic environment, where temperatures can hit subzero, presents many challenges to maintenance and also makes it difficult to maintain physical fitness; however, Posey continues to find the time to instill discipline in Marines to maintain peak fitness in any clime and place. Posey has ensured that the Marines continue to work on cardio and high intensity tactical training to stay warm in the cold environment ensure physical readiness.

“I have a distaste for unhealthy habits, and as a warfighter, I place a high value on the readiness of my Marines. As a leader of Marines, I hold myself to the same standard,” said Posey. “If there’s a way to maintain, and do it safely, we’re moving and training.”

Posey was highlighted by his section as a Marine who sets a standard of excellence for all Marines to emulate. Demonstrating maturity, tactical composure, and leadership that exceeds the rank of a corporal.

“As a noncommissioned officer of Marines, having initiative is crucial; things can get stagnant at times so it’s essential to step up and lead to keep things moving forward,” said Posey. “As long as you’re doing the right thing, maintaining your integrity, then you can lead with confidence and control the environment around you.”
