CAMP TAQADDUM, Iraq -- Lance Cpl. James Cameron, a mechanic with the Marine Armor Installation Team and Macon, Ga., native, records the serial numbers of humvees as they are brought to the Marine Armor Installation Site. The Marine Corps’ new Marine Armor Kit is being installed on all humvees in the II Marine Expeditionary Force area of operations by the Marine Armor Installation Team here. The MAKs have combinations of one-quarter inch high-hard steel, three-eighths inch rolled homogenous armor and mild steel to offer improved protection. The Marines are also installing extra armor on the bottom of vehicle to minimize the damage done by Improvised Explosive Devices if they are detonated underneath the vehicle.
