CAMP TAQADDUM, Iraq – Retired Marine Capt. John J. McGinty III, received a Medal of Honor for his actions in the Vietnam War. During the war, with complete disregard for his safety, he charged through intense automatic weapons and mortar fire to get to his men. McGinty’s leadership and fighting spirit inspired his men to resist the repeated enemy attacks. McGinty, who now resides in Chula Vista, Calif., along with four other Medal of Honor recipients, shared their stories with the Marines, Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen here April 7.
