MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (April 6, 2005) - "All gave some, some gave all," reads the plaque hanging above a recently-placed memorial at the headquarters building for 2nd Supply Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, here. The memorial for Lance Cpl. Thomas J. Zapp, who was killed Nov. 8, as a result of enemy action in Iraq, stands as a testament to everyone who enters the battalion that he was an important asset to the unit and the Marine Corps. The unit's senior leaders, Col. Peter J. Talleri, battalion commanding officer, and 1st Sgt. Billy D. McDowell, battalion sergeant major, said losing one Marine is too many. The Marines have since implemented additional training for their warriors prior to deployments. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. G. Lane Miley)
