Major Spencer D. Sweet

Major Sweet graduated from Augustana College (Rock Island, IL) with a Business Administration degree. He attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2008.  He graduated from The Basic School in 2009, with assignment as a Logistics Officer.

Upon graduation from Logistics Officers Course, Major Sweet was assigned to 9th Communication Battalion in Camp Pendleton, California and assumed the billet as the Battalion Logistics Officer.  After a short pre-deployment cycle, Major Sweet deployed with 9th Communication Battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Helmand Province, Afghanistan from August 2010 to March 2011. Upon return from deployment, Major Sweet was assigned as Motor Transportation Platoon Commander, 9th Communication Battalion.


In October 2011, Major Sweet and his Motor Transportation Platoon were given orders to report to Echo Company, Third Assault Amphibian Battalion in preparation for a follow-on attachment to Combat Logistics Battalion 5 (CLB 5) as a Motor Transportation Company.  After a five month pre-deployment cycle, Major Sweet deployed back to Helmand Province, Afghanistan as a Motor Transportation Platoon Commander from March 2012 to September 2012.


Upon return from deployment in September 2012, Major Sweet and his platoon rejoined 9th Communication Battalion and Major Sweet received orders to report to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines in Twentynine Palms, California.  As the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines Logistics Officer, Major Sweet supported a 12-month pre-deployment cycle and again deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan from September 2013 to March 2014.


After returning from deployment in 2014, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines was put into the deployment rotation supporting the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Crisis Response - Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC), beginning a new training cycle in preparation for deployment.  Major Sweet deployed in January 2015 in support of SPMAGTF-CR-CC filling roles as the Battalion Logistics Officer, and the Assistant Logistics Officer for 7th Marine Regiment who was the SPMAGTF-CR-CC Command Element.  Also during this time, Major Sweet was the lead logistics planner for Exercise EAGER LION which executed in Jordan.


Returning from the SPMAGTF-CR-CC deployment in June 2015, Major Sweet had orders to report to Naval Post-Graduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California.  From June 2015 to January 2017 Major Sweet was a student at NPS, completing a Masters program with a follow-on payback tour at Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM) in Albany, Georgia.


From January 2017 through July 2020, Major Sweet served at MARCORLOGCOM.  Upon arrival, he was assigned to the G3/5, leading a team of NPS graduates within the G3/5 Fusion Cell, who provided the command with an analytics capability to help inform executive level decision making.
 
In July 2020, Major Sweet reported to 2d Marine Logistics Group, Combat Logistics Regiment 27 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. From July 2020 to July 2022, Major Sweet served as the Regimental Operations Officer.  In July 2022, Major Sweet transitioned to his current assignment as the Combat Logistics Regiment 27 Executive Officer. 
 
Major Sweet's professional military education includes Expeditionary Warfare School (blended seminar), Command and Staff (Non-resident), Naval Post-Graduate School, and the Intermediate MAGTF Logistics Operations Course. Personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal with one gold star.
