Sergeant Major Byron Morris

Sergeant Major Byron Morris was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Milford Mill Academy High School in Baltimore, Maryland in May of 1999. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 1 June 1999 and attended recruit training at Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island South Carolina.

Upon completion of recruit training in August of 1999, Private First Class Morris attended Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry at Camp Geiger NC. He was then assigned to Motor Vehicle Operators Course in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Upon completion in November of 1999, Private First Class Morris reported to Mike BTRY, 3d Battalion, 11th Marines in 29 Palms, California.

In February of 2000, Lance Corporal Morris deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program. Lance Corporal Morris returned to CONUS in August of 2000. Lance Corporal Morris was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal in December of 2000 and served as the OVE room NCO. Corporal Morris deployed to Okinawa, Japan for a second time in February 2002 in support of the Unit Deployment Program returning to CONUS that August. In January of 2003, he deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In March of 2003, Corporal Morris participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He returned to CONUS June of 2003. Corporal Morris was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August 2003.

Sergeant Morris was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 7 in December of 2003. In October of 2004 Sergeant Morris was assigned to the Twenty-nine Palms Provost Marshals Office where he served as a gate sentry, patrolman, patrol supervisor, and watch commander. In October 2006 he reported to the Basic Recruiter Course at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego CA. Upon completion, he reported to Recruiting Station Baltimore, Maryland Recruiting Sub Station Newark Delaware.

Sergeant Morris was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in December of 2007. Staff Sergeant Morris served as a canvassing recruiter until December of 2008 when he became the Officer Selection Assistant in Newark, Delaware. Upon completion of a successful tour, Staff Sergeant Morris was assigned to Headquarters Company 8th Marine Regiment Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in January of 2010. In January 2011, Staff Sergeant Morris deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He returned to CONUS January 2012. In January 2013 SSgt Morris reported to the Logistics Operations School for duty as an Advanced Ground Transportation Operations Section (AGTOS) Instructor. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in September 2013.

In January 2014 GySgt Morris was reassigned as the Mobility Operations Instructional Company Forming Platoon SNCOIC. In March of 2015 GySgt Morris was reassigned as the Company GySgt of Motor Transport Maintenance Instructional Company. Later that year he became the Company SNCOIC. In July 2016 GySgt Morris was assigned to 3D Transportation Support Battalion Motor Transport Company Okinawa, Japan as the Company Truck Master and ultimately the Company Gunnery Sergeant. In January of 2017 he was promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to Headquarters Company Fourth Marine Regiment as the Company First Sergeant.

In July 2019 First Sergeant Morris reported to Company C 2D Tank BN Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for duty as the Company First Sergeant. In March of 2020 First Sergeant Morris was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company as the Headquarters and service company First Sergeant. First Sergeant Morris also served as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 2D Tank Battalion until the battalion deactivation in May of 2021. In June of 2021 First Sergeant Morris reported to the School of Infantry East, Marine Combat Training Battalion Company F for duty as the company First Sergeant. In November of 2021 Sergeant Major Morris was promoted to his current rank and was appointed as the Sergeant Major of Marine Combat Training Battalion East.

In November 2022 Sergeant Major Morris was appointed as the Combat Logistics Battalion 8 Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Morris’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award, the Combat Action Ribbon with gold stars in lieu of second award, and the Good Conduct Medal with one silver and 1 bronze star in lieu of seventh award.
