SgtMaj Wesley O. Turner II

Sergeant Major Turner was born in Kansas City, Missouri. SgtMaj Turner enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 1997 and completed his recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion of initial training PFC Turner was assigned to the Motor Transport Operators Course at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for primary MOS training as a 3531 Motor Transport Operator. PFC Turner reported for duty as a Motor Transport Operator to 7th Motor Transport Battalion Camp Pendleton, CA in May of 1998.

In February of 1999, LCpl Turner reported to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served as Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader and Line Noncommissioned Officer. In September of 1999, LCpl Turner was meritoriously promoted to Corporal. Cpl Turner deployed to the Western Pacific with the 15th MEU where he participated in Operation Southern Watch and Operation Stabilize.

Sgt Turner deployed for a second time in August of 2001 with the 15th MEU. In October 2001 Sgt Turner participated in Operation Enduring Freedom part of Task Force 58. In July of 2002 Sgt Turner reported to Drill Instructor School at MCRD San Diego, CA for training as a Drill Instructor. Upon graduation from DI school Sgt Turner was assigned to Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.

In October of 2005 SSgt Turner was transferred to Combat Logistics Battalion 5 Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, Assistant Convoy Commander, and Convoy Commander. In February of 2006 SSgt Turner deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and returned in September of 2006.

In February of 2007 SSgt Turner was assigned to 2nd Maintenance Battalion and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and returned in September of 2007. In October of 2007 SSgt Turner returned to Combat Logistics Battalion 5 where he served as Battalion Training Chief and COC Watch Chief. In August of 2008 SSgt Turner was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. GySgt Turner returned from his tour in Iraq in March of 2009. In August of 2009 GySgt Turner was transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 MCAS Miramar, CA where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10.2 and served as the Company First Sergeant for Engineer Company, Airfield Operations Company, and the Director of the MCAS Miramar Corporals Course.

In July of 2012 GySgt Turner was transferred to Headquarters Battery, 12th Marine Regiment Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Assistant Regimental Motor Transport Chief. Upon his selection to 1stSgt, GySgt Turner was frocked and appointed as the Headquarters Battery First Sergeant. In May 2013 1stSgt Turner was transferred to 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion (LAAD) MCAS Cherry Point, NC where he was assigned as the Battery B First Sergeant. While assigned to 2d LAAD 1stSgt Turner participated in WTI 2-14 as the Battery 1stSgt.  In July 2015 he was transferred to Service Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion MCRD San Diego, CA as the Service Company First Sergeant until his selection to SgtMaj.

In January 2017 SgtMaj Turner was transferred to the Recruit Training Regiment as the 3rd Recruit Training Battalion Sergeant Major. While assigned to 3rd Battalion Sergeant Major Turner played a critical role in the implementation of the 4th phase of training for Marine Corps Recruits attending MCRD San Diego. In September 2018 SgtMaj Turner was transferred to 10th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, NC as the 1st Battalion 10th Marines Sergeant Major. In November 2020 SgtMaj Turner was transferred to MCI Camp Mujuk, Republic of Korea as the Camp Mujuk Sergeant Major. In October 2021 SgtMaj Turner was transferred to II MEF Information Group, Camp Lejeune, NC as the Group Sergeant Major. In May 2023 SgtMaj Turner assumed his current post as the 2d Marine Logistics Group Sergeant Major.

SgtMaj Turner’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4th Award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6th Award) and the Combat Action Ribbon.
