Lieutenant Colonel Scott A. Clippinger assumed the duties of Combat Logistics Battalion 2 Commanding Officer on 20 June 2019
Lieutenant Colonel Clippinger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1991 serving as a Security Forces Marine aboard Naval Station Guam and Kings Bay, Georgia Naval Submarine Base. He received his commission via the Platoon Leaders Course and completed officer Candidate School in August of 1998.
Upon graduation from The Basic School and the Logistics Operations Course, he was assigned to 2d Marine Division, 8th Marine Regiment, completing a deployment with Regimental Combat Team- 8 (RCT-8) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and as a Military Transition Team (MTT) advisor for the 1st Iraqi Army Brigade, from 2006 to 2007. After returning from deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Clippinger completed his tour in the operating forces serving as the Logistics officer for 2d Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB) and as the S-4 alpha for 10th Marine Regiment.
After his tour in the operating forces, Lieutenant Colonel Clippinger was assigned to Marine Barracks Washington in 2009 where he served as the Deputy Director, Distance Learning, Marine Corps Institute (MCI), as well as the Marine Barracks Washington Headquarters Company Commander from 2011-2012.
Lieutenant Colonel Clippinger returned to the operating forces in 2012, serving as the Logistics Officer for the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit, deploying to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation in support of Operation New Dawn.
From 2015 to 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Clippinger was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, Plans, Policies and Operations (PP&O), serving as the Section Head, Prepositioning Programs. In this capacity he was responsible for advocating on behalf of the Service’s maritime and ashore prepositioning programs. In June of 2017 he returned to Marine Barracks Washington D.C. to serve as the Executive Officer until taking command of Combat Logistics Battalion 2 in June of 2019.
Lieutenant Colonel Clippinger holds a BA and a Law degree (JD) from The Ohio State University. He is a distance education graduate of the Air War College, Senior Developmental Education (AWC/SDE), the Marine Corps Command & Staff College, the Expeditionary Warfare School and the Penn State Marine Corps Logistics Education Program (MCLEP). He has completed the Advanced Logistics Operations Course and the Joint Logistics/Humanitarian Operations Course. His personal decorations include the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award.
