Following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy in 2007, Dan Walker was commissioned a 2ndLt in the United States Marine Corps. While at The Basic School, he was selected to be a logistics officer, and then sent to Camp Johnson, NC where he completed the Logistics Officer’s Course.
In May 2008, he joined 2d Combat Engineer Battalion where he served as Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion S-4. During this assignment, he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In Fall 2010, 1stLt Walker transferred to 2d Marine Division to serve as the Division Maintenance Management Officer. During this assignment, 1stLt Walker was selected as a George and Carol Olmsted Foundation Scholar.
In June 2011, Captain Walker executed PCS orders to Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California for entry into the Special Projects Mandarin Chinese course. After one year of language training, he and his family executed orders to Guangzhou, China. Upon arrival, he entered into a Master’s Degree program at Sun Yat-Sen University. Following two years of study, he graduated and returned to CONUS.
In Summer 2014, Captain Walker reported to the newly formed 2d Transportation Support Battalion in Camp Lejeune, NC. While there, he served as the H&S Company Commander, Battalion Operations Officer and Landing Support Company Commander.
In July 2016, Captain Walker joined the Georgia Liaison Team, Rotation-5 as the Operations Officer. Following pre-deployment training, his advisory team deployed to the Republic of Georgia in November 2016 to train the 23d Georgian Light Infantry Battalion. In March 2017, the team deployed with their assigned Georgian Battalion to Afghanistan to conduct security operations in Parwan Province, Afghanistan.
Following the advisory team’s decomposition, Maj Walker then reported for duty at Combat Logistics Regiment-2 where he served as the Regimental Operations Officer until June 2018 at which time he executed PCS orders to School of Advanced Warfighting. He then reported to III MEF where he served as regional planner and Director of Plans within the G-5.
Returning CONUS in June 2022, he reported to Manpower & Reserve Affairs where he served as section head, enlisted manpower plans (MPP-20). LtCol Walker completed his tour in May 2023 and reported to Camp Lejeune.
He holds master’s degrees from Sun Yat-Sen University and Marine Corps University.
