Lieutenant Colonel Gregory M. Duesterhaus grew up in Vienna, Virginia and graduated from George Mason University in May 2003. He commissioned via Officer Candidate School in December 2004.
LtCol Duesterhaus has served in supply, logistics, and operations billets at echelons across the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) both at home and abroad. He deployed to Iraq twice, first in 2006-2007 as the Supply Officer/Security Platoon Commander with 9th Engineer Support Battalion (ESB) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; and again in 2017-2018 as the Future Operations Officer with Task Force Lion, Combined Joint Land Component Command (CJFLCC) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Additionally, he deployed in 2014 on the USS Bataan (LHD-5) with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) to both 5th & 6th Fleets as the MEU Supply Officer. In 2013, he helped stand up the first of its kind Special Purpose MAGTF, Crisis Response based in Spain following the attack on the diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya in 2012.
In addition to operational billets, LtCol Duesterhaus served as a Series Commander and Company Commander at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, overseeing the processing of over 2,300 new Marines into the Marine Corps. He also served as both the Materiel Readiness Branch Head and Plans Officer for the Logistics Department (G4) of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Across his career, he directly supported exercises in North Carolina, California, Arizona, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Spain, Greece, Israel, Djibouti, Oman, and Kuwait. He is currently finishing his third year on a joint tour with the Defense Logistics Agency HQ where he served as the Current Operations Branch Head for the Agency Synchronization Operations Center before shifting to a position as the Military Deputy for Planning within Planning & Order Fulfillment (J341).
LtCol Duesterhaus is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS), Marine Corps University; the LOGTECH Advanced Program in Logistics and Technology, Institute for Defense & Business; and the Joint & Combined Warfighting School, Joint Forces Staff College. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the Command & General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he earned a Master of Military Art & Science (MMAS).
