Executive Officer, 2nd Medical Battalion
Commander James M. Nogle

Commander James M. Nogle was born and raised in Danville, Pennsylvania.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1989 as an Operation’s Specialist and was stationed on the USS Josephus Daniels (CG-27).  He earned a Business Administration Degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1998, a Master’s Degree from Bowie State University in Public Administration, and a Master of Healthcare Administration Degree from the University of North Florida in 2004 through the Health Service Collegiate Program. He was commissioned in 2004. 

CDR Nogle’s enlisted career began onboard the USS Josephus Daniels (CG-27), home ported in Norfolk, VA. He participated in UNITAS 31-90 and Mediterranean Cruise 1993.  Upon completion of Officer Indoctrination School in 2004, he was assigned to Naval Hospital Charleston, SC serving as Department Head, Human Resources and Plans, Operations and Medical Intelligence Officer Department.

In February 2007, CDR Nogle reported to 2d Medical Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, NC, where he served as the S-1. In August 2008, he was assigned as Company Commander, Alpha Surgical Company. CDR Nogle deployed to Iraq with 2d Supply Battalion  (-) REIN from March 2009 to September 2009.

In May 2010 he transferred to U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe, Stuttgart, Germany, serving as the Command Surgeon and Medical Planner. In 2013, he transferred to Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Falls Church, VA where he served as the Deputy, Branch Head Systems Division in Capabilities, Development and Integration Directorate.

In 2016, he reported to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA and assumed the duties as the Director for Administration onboard USNS COMFORT (T-AH 20) until 2017. Upon his return, he was selected as Associate, Director for Administration. In May 2020, he reported to Naval Medical Forces Atlantic, Portsmouth, VA, as the Deputy, Chief of Staff, M9, and was responsible for deploying thousands of medical personnel and equipment all over the world in support of COVID-19.

Commander Nogle reported to 2d Medical Battalion as the Executive Officer in June 2022.

Commander Nogle’s military awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4th award) and various other unit and service awards.
