Captain David A. Lowrey, a native of Russellville, Arkansas, graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1978. He attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in 1985.
After practicing general dentistry from 1985 until 1993, he accepted a commission as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Dental Corps. He reported to his first assignment at Naval Dental Center Parris Island, South Carolina in July of 1993. He was then assigned to Naval Dental Center Yokosuka, Japan, where he served from October 1994 until June 1999. While in Yokosuka, he served as an Assistant Dental Officer, Division Officer, and as Annex Head of Fleet Dental Clinic.
In June of 1999, he reported for duty at Naval Dental Center Great Lakes, Illinois, where he completed a one year Advanced Clinical Program (ACP) in Exodontia. Following completion of the Exodontia Residency, he remained at Great Lakes, serving as a staff Exodontist. In August of 2001, he reported to 3D Dental Battalion, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as Director, Schwab Dental Clinic and concurrently as a staff Exodontist.
In June 2004, he reported aboard USS EMORY S. LAND (AS 39) homeported in LaMaddalena, Italy, serving as the Dental Department Head.
In August 2006, he reported to 3D Dental Battalion, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a Clinic Director until November 2010, when he was appointed as the Director for Facilities and Special Projects for 3D Dental Battalion. Captain Lowrey reported to 1ST Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center, Camp Pendleton, California in August 2012. He served as a Clinic Director initially, and was appointed as Director of Branch Clinics in February 2013. In May 2014, he assumed duties as Executive Officer, 1st Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center Camp Pendleton.
Personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars. Captain Lowrey has also earned the Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer (SWMDO) designation and the Fleet Marine Force Warfare Officer (FMFWO) designation.
