2nd Marine Logistics Group Service Members Receive Awards for Excellency

U.S. Marines and Sailors with 2nd Marine Logistics Group were recognized for exceptional work ethic and leadership qualities at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, May 14, 2019.

Lt. Gen. Robert F. Hedelund, commanding general of II Marine Expeditionary Force, and Brig. Gen. Kevin J. Stewart, commanding general of 2nd MLG, presented awards to 5 service members for II MEF Marine of the Year, Senior Sailor of the Year, Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, Junior Sailor of the Year, and Blue Jacket of the Year.

“Each and every one of these Marines and Sailors went above and beyond what was asked of them,” said Hedelund, “They were selected because of their tireless work ethic and leadership abilities.”

Cpl. Lance F. Sumo, with 2nd Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd MLG, was selected as the II MEF Marine of the Year for his work performance and dedication to duty throughout 2018.

“I kept on pushing, I didn’t allow myself to just go through the motions,” said Sumo. “I want my Marines to look at this accomplishment and think ‘Why can’t that be me? Why can’t I be just as successful?’”

Sumo stood out amongst the Marines of II MEF to win the coveted award.

Sgt. Crisoforo R. Reyes, with 2nd Supply Bn., CLR 25, 2nd MLG, was selected as 2nd MLG Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for his tireless leadership and dedication to his Marines.

“I believe that putting in 110 percent effort every single day has helped me stand out and win this award,” said Reyes.

Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Marques R. Coleman, with 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd MLG, was selected as 2nd MLG Senior Sailor of the Year for his tireless leadership and dedication to duty.

“This award is for the junior Sailors who I have mentored and trained over the years,” said Coleman. “It’s because of their tireless work that I am able to be recognized.”

A spokesperson for 2nd MLG stated that the Marines and Sailors that were recognized during the ceremony exemplified the fact that hard work and dedication do not always go unnoticed.
