Marines make a difference in peoples’ lives on a daily basis, but for some it isn’t enough.

Cpl. Edward Wilson, a clerk for Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, uses his musical talents to help those in need.

The Milwaukee native has always been one to give back. As a musician, a percentage of the money he earns performing is donated to charity.

“I started last year when I was given my first venue called, ‘One 4 the City’, which was held at in Jacksonville, North Carolina,” Wilson said. “After doing the show, I donated a portion of my earnings to two different foundations.”

Not many people are aware of Wilson’s musical endeavors, despite playing in local venues for over a year now.

“People are always shocked and amazed when they first hear my music and are the same when they see me in person doing a live show,” Wilson said. “They always smile like they can't believe how far I made it.”

He never forgets the reason he started performing professionally: for the people and charity. He gives the credit to the Marine Corps.

“I figure the Marine Corps has helped me so much,” Wilson said. “They’ve provided an income for my family. My command has supported my music from day one, so I just wanted to give back something for the success I’ve had.”

His talent enabled him to contribute to organizations close to his heart, and Wilson doesn’t plan to stop showcasing his talent as he moves forward in his career.

Wilson will be performing his next show at a local club April 6.

This time around he’ll give a portion of the money he earns to wounded warriors and Toys for Tots.
