Marines and sailors of any trade or unit have to remain ready to answer the nation’s call at a moment’s notice.

Contributing to the Marine Corps’ expeditionary legacy, members of Headquarters and Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group participated in an eight-mile hike aboard Camp Lejeune, June 1.

“The purpose of the exercise was to improve the physical fitness and mental toughness of the troops within the command,” said Capt. James S. Mackin, the commanding officer of HQ Co. “We want to challenge our [troops] a little more every time.”

Mackin expressed his appreciation for the participation and performance of the troops during a speech after completing the movement.

“This was more than just walking in a straight line,” Mackin added. “I wanted us to learn from this, to improve ourselves and to finish all together as one team.”

Lance Cpl. Flavia A. Flores Ramos, a supply administration and operations specialist with 2nd MLG, and one of the Marines who participated in the hike, expressed how motivated she felt.

“I really love hiking and love participating in unit [physical training],” Flores Ramos concluded. “This hike was hard, but I think we need this type of challenge to improve ourselves and improve our camaraderie.”
