Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune -- Col. Dwayne A. Whiteside relinquished command of Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group to Col. Brian N. Wolford during a change of command ceremony at the 2nd MLG headquarters building at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., June 18.
During the ceremony, Whiteside received the Legion of Merit award for his performance as regimental commander over the last two years. Whiteside was awarded for his leadership of the unit both stateside as well as during its recent deployment to Afghanistan.
In his final remarks, Whiteside credited his success to each Marine and sailor within the unit, and said he sees each one of them as family.
“It’s truly, truly been a family,” said Whiteside, a Greensboro, North Carolina native. “For everything I needed, I had their support.”
Responsibility of the regiment transferred from Whiteside to Wolford during the passing of the colors, a staple for change of command ceremonies. The two colonels then stood side-by-side and saluted their Marines as the regiment marched by.
Wolford previously served as the commanding officer of Combat Logistics Battalion 2, CLR-2 for two years. He later attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and served as the branch head of Logistics Plans and Operations at Installations and Logistics, Headquarters Marine Corps before returning to CLR-2 and assuming command.
“I really feel like I’m coming home,” said Wolford. “I’m looking forward to spending the next two years together.”
