Captain Joseph DeHoogh graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1985 with a degree in Biomedical Science. In 1989 graduated from the University Of Oklahoma College Of Dentistry and was commissioned into the United States Navy. Captain DeHoogh reported to his first duty station at Naval Hospital San Diego and completed a General Practice Residency in 1990. In 1990 he received orders to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74, Gulfport, Mississippi and deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, in 1992 deployed to Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. After his initial tour, DeHoogh entered private dental practice in Oklahoma. He returned to active duty in 1996 assigned to Branch Dental Clinic Quantico, Virginia. 2001 he fulfilled Prosthodontic training at the Medical College of Virginia. DeHoogh and transferred to Branch Dental Clinic Naval Air Station Brunswick Maine. While stationed in Maine he volunteered for a South American UNITAS deployment on board the USS Portland (LSD 37). He accepted his next assignment in 2004 onboard the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) serving as Division Officer and deployed to the Western Pacific in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2006 DeHoogh transferred to Recruit Training Center, Naval Health Clinic, Great Lakes, Illinois were he served as Head, Osborne Dental Clinic Restorative Department, in 2008 he deployed to Expeditionary Medical Facility, Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He returned to Great Lakes as Department Head USS Red Rover 1523 Branch Dental Clinic, the Navy’s sole recruit in processing clinic. In 2010 he accepted orders to 2d Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His initial duty was Director Branch Dental Clinics Osborne/H1. In 2012 he assumed duties as the Battalion Director for Dental Services. August 2014 he reported to 1st Dental Battalion Camp Pendleton, 23rd Dental Company Twentynine Palms, CA. DeHoogh next received orders to report to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth July 2015, as Prosthodontic Department Head Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek Boone Branch Dental Clinic, in January 2016 he assumed the position as Director for Dental Services Naval Medical Center Portsmouth until October 2017 when he served as Director for Dental Services Naval Health Clinic Quantico. May 2018 Captain DeHoogh assumed the position of Executive Officer 2nd Dental Battalion Naval Dental Center Camp Lejeune.
Captain DeHoogh has earned and qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist and a Surface Warfare Dental Department Officer. His personal awards include two Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various other unit and campaign awards.
