Sergeant Major, 2nd Maintenance Battalion
SgtMaj Joe N. Wilborn Jr.

Sergeant Major Wilborn was born in 1970 and hails from Lambert, Mississippi.  He first enter the Armed Forces in August of 1990 after enlisting in the United States Army. He served in both Operations' Desert Storm and Desert Shield, as well as numerous joint exercises with the Artic Light Infantry Brigade aboard Fort Richardson, Anchorage Alaska.  He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1994.
 
He entered the Marine Corps on November 17, 1997 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego and was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal while attending Marine Combat Training (MCT) on March 2, 1998.  LCpl Wilborn attended his formal Military Occupational School (MOS) at Fort Leonard wood, Missouri and obtained the MOS 3533 as a Logistics Vehicle System Operator.
 
In July of 1998, LCpl Wilborn received orders to 3D Support Battalion, 3D FSSG, Okinawa, Japan where he served as a heavy wheeled vehicle section leader.  He was promoted to Corporal on October 1, 1998. 
 
In June 1999, Cpl Wilborn reported to Headquarters Service & Support Battalion, 2D FSSG, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he worked with both the G4 Motor Transport Section and the G-3 Logistical Movement Control Center as Platoon Sergeant and Road Master.  He was promoted to Sergeant on December 1, 1999.  
 
In January of 2002, Sgt Wilborn volunteered for Drill Instructor duty aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. There he served as Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor for both First Recruit Training Battalion and Special Training Company, Support Battalion.  He was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant on July 2, 2003.
 
In April of 2005, SSgt Wilborn reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan where he held the billets of Company Gunnery Sergeant, Motor Transport Operations Chief and Company First Sergeant.  He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant on December 1, 2007.
 
In May of 2008, GySgt Wilborn volunteered for Assistant Marine Officer Instructor duty (AMOI) and served as the AMOI at Southern University A&M College.  He also completed three summers at Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia as a Sergeant Instructor.  In September of 2011, he reported to Headquarters Battalion, Second Marine Division aboard Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as the Motor Transport Operations Chief.  In May of 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan with CLB-8 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the Reset and Reconstitution Operations Group (R4OG) as the Company First Sergeant.
 
Selected for the rank of First Sergeant in 2013, he requested orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina and was assigned to Third Recruit Training Battalion.  In April of 2016 he was transferred to Headquarters and Service Battalion and served as Company First Sergeant for Headquarters Company.  In April of 2017 he reported to III Marine Information Group, Okinawa Japan and assumed the duties of Company First Sergeant for Headquarters Company, 7th Communication Battalion.  
 
In November of 2017, 1stSgt Wilborn was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major.  He was later frocked and assumed the position of Sergeant Major for Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan.  In January 2019, Sergeant Major Wilborn received orders to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 and assumed the duties as Squadron Sergeant Major. 
 
In July of 2020, SgtMaj Wilborn executed orders and assumed his current billet as Battalion Sergeant Major for 2D Maintenance Battalion, aboard Camp Lejeune, NC.
 
Sergeant Major Wilborn holds an Associates Degree in General Studies. His personal awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd award), the Army Achievement Medal and various other Service and Campaign medals.
