Lieutenant Colonel Murphy is from Wheaton, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 2005 and commissioned via the Officer Candidates Course in 2006. Following completion of The Basic School in 2007 she reported to Camp Johnson to attend the Logistics Officer Course, upon graduating she was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 7 (CLB-7), Twentynine Palms, California. She was promoted to Captain in September 2010. While assigned to CLB-7, she served as a Platoon Commander, Company Commander, and Battalion S-4. and deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 11.2.
In January 2012, Captain Murphy reported to 3d Marine Division to serve as the Deputy Command Inspector General and Division Safety Officer. In 2012 Captain Murphy was selected to serve as the Company Commander for Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division. As the Truck Company Commander, Captain Murphy deployed five platoons to the Philippines in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM - PHILIPPINES and one platoon to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM - AFGHANISTAN. She also deployed her company in support of numerous Theatre Security Cooperation exercises in the Philippines, Thailand, Korea, and Mainland Japan. In 2014 Captain Murphy was selected to serve as the Operations Officer, Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division. In 2014 Headquarters Battalion served as the Command Element for a SPMAGTF in support of PHIBLEX 14, and in 2015 Headquarters Battalion executed BALIKATAN 15.
In June 2015 Captain Murphy was selected on the Commandants Career Level Education Board to attend the Army's Logistics Captain's Career Course (LCCC) at Fort Gregg-Adams in Prince George County, Virginia. She was an honor graduate at LCCC and reported for duty with Combat Logistics Battalion 3 (CLB-3) at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in June 2015. While assigned to CLB-3, Captain Murphy served as the Battalion Operations Officer from 2015 to 2018. She was promoted to the rank of Major in October 2016. While assigned to CLB-3 she planned, deployed, and led CLB-3's superior performance during RIMPAC 16, the deployment the Battalion to the Republic of Korea in support of WORKHORSE 17, and the Battalion's assignment as the Logistics Combat Element (LCE) for SPMAGTF-3 in support of ITX 2-18. In May of 2018, Major Murphy was selected to serve as the Staff Secretary for Marine Corps Forces, Pacific.
In June 2019 Major Murphy was selected to attend the School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW) in Quantico, Virginia. In June 2020, Major Murphy graduated from SAW, earned the additional MOS of 0505, and was assigned to 2d Marine Logistics Group to serve as an operational planner. She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in October 2022. During her tour as the operational planner for 2d MLG, Lieutenant Colonel Murphy supported Operation Allies Welcome - Quantico, ensuring the safe and efficient processing of over 5,000 Afghan evacuees to their forever home. She planned and developed countless Theater Security Cooperation exercises including the first iteration of the Marine Rotational Force - Europe Logistics Combat Element. She led 2d MLG's Force Design 2030 (FD 2030) planning effort and developed 2d MLG's FD 2030 implementation plan.
In August 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Murphy received orders to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools to serve as the Operations Officer, providing the 400+ permanent personnel (Marines and civilians) with the operational, academic, and training support required for 45 separate programs of instruction, conducted across six occupational fields, and training over 9,000+ Marines annually.
Lieutenant Colonel Murphy is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program, the Army’s Logistics Captains Career Course, Command and Staff College Distance Education Program, and the School of Advanced Warfighting. She has two degrees from the University of Virginia: Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Teaching in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies. She also has a master’s degree in Operational Studies from Marine Corps University. Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (second award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (fourth award). Lieutenant Colonel Murphy is the recipient of the 2014 III MEF Leadership Award.
