Lieutenant Colonel Steven D. Kasdan is a native of California and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2010 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History. Prior to attending The Basic School, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan was selected for the Voluntary Graduate Education Program at the University of Maryland, College Park where in 2011 he earned a Master of Arts Degree in Government and Politics.
Following completion of The Basic School and his Military Occupational Specialty School, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan was assigned as the Supply Officer, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California from 2012-2015.
In 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan transferred to 3d Supply Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan served as the Battalion Operations Officer from 2015-2017 and during this period attended the Intermediate Marine Air Ground Task Force Logistics Officer Course 15-3. In 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan participated in Exercise OPERATION PACIFIC REACH 17 as Battalion Operations Officer and Marine Staff Augment to Expeditionary Strike Group 3 in the Republic of Korea. From 2017-2018 he served as the Company Commander for Ammunition Company, 3d Supply Battalion. In 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan supported U.S. Indo-Pacific Command during Exercise KEEN EDGE 18 as a Marine Individual Augment.
From 2018 to 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Operations Analysis with a Warfighting Concentration.
In 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan transferred to the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory where he served as the organization's lead Operations Research Systems Analyst and the Department of the Navy Lead Analyst for the PROJECT CONVERGENCE experimentation effort from 2021 until 2023.
In 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan was directed to Marine Corps University to serve as the Commandant of the Marine Corps Fellow to the FedEx Corporation in Memphis, TN.
In 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan transferred to 2d Marine Logistics Group where he served as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4 from 2024 to 2025 and the Operations Officer, 2d Combat Readiness Regiment from 2025 to 2026. As of June 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan now serves as the Commanding Officer for 2d Maintenance Battalion.
Lieutenant Colonel Kasdan graduated from the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program in May 2016 and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program in May 2019. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award.
