MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (April 6, 2006) ? A Marine places his Common Access Card into a modified card-reading keyboard here April 6. The card will be read through the computer and allow Marines with 2nd Marine Logistics Group to attach an electronic signature to documents they send through their government e-mail accounts. Although the capabilities have been there since 2003, the year the CAC replaced its predecessor, the Smart Card, many servicemembers have not used their cards for anything other than as a form of identification.
