Brig. Gen. John E. Wissler, commanding general of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, pays tribute to the fallen servicemembers of the 2nd MLG as he transfers authority of logistics operations in Iraq?s Al Anbar Province from the 2nd MLG to the Camp Pendleton, Calif.-based 1st MLG. The 2nd MLG is returning home to Camp Lejeune, N.C. after completing a 12-month tour in Iraq. The 4,000 joint-service members of the 1st MLG are part of the 25,000 Marines, sailors, soldiers and airmen of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force?s forward deployed element. The 1st MLG?s mission is to provide sustained logistical support to I MEF and Iraqi Security Forces operating in the Al Anbar Province. First MLG will also support the development of Iraqi Security Forces? logistical capabilities in order to enable independent ISF-led counterinsurgency operations.
