Sgt. Emerson C. Mason, a motor vehicle operator with Combat Logistics Battalion 8, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, reports his situation to the convoy commander after his truck hit a simulated improvised explosive device during a field training exercise aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., Aug. 1, 2012. During the week-long exercise, troops faced many challenges such as simulated firefights, explosions and casualty evacuations as part of the unit’s pre-deployment training. Each event in the training was designed to prepare the troops for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
