Major John (“Luke”) Hinsdale is a native of Georgia. He graduated from Virginia Tech and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 2013. Following graduation from The Basic School in May 2014 and Logistics Officers Course in September 2014, his first duty station was Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was assigned to Headquarters Company, 8th Marine Regiment in October 2014 and served as the Regimental Motor Transport Officer for over a year leading up to the unit’s next deployment. During this time, he promoted to First Lieutenant in May 2015.
First Lieutenant Hinsdale deployed from January to October 2016 with 8th Marine Regiment, which was the Command Element for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force–Crisis Response–Africa 16.1. He served as the Europe/North Africa Logistics-Operations Planner, coordinating logistics support for multiple bilateral and multilateral training exercises with military forces of partner nations across Europe. From July to October 2016, he went to Africa with the Crisis Response Force to provide logistics support for contingency operations during Operation OAKEN STEEL in Uganda & Djibouti.
Upon redeploying back to Camp Lejeune, First Lieutenant Hinsdale resumed his duties as the Regimental Motor Transport Officer. He then executed Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders in July 2017 to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, Arizona and reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) where he served as the Ground Logistics Officer. He promoted to Captain in March 2018 and completed his tour with MAWTS-1 in July 2020. Captain Hinsdale executed PCS orders to Japan where he served as the Installation Logistics Officer at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji from September 2020 to September 2021. He then served at 3rd Landing Support Battalion (3d LSB) in Okinawa as the Headquarters & Service Company Commander from October 2021 to October 2022.
In November 2022, Captain Hinsdale deployed to the Middle East as an Individual Augment to the Combined Joint Task Force–Operation INHERENT RESOLVE staff and served as the CJ44/Joint Logistics Operations Center Deputy Chief within the CJ4/Directorate of Sustainment (DOS). He additionally served as a DOS Battle Captain within the CJ33/Combined Joint Operations Center following kinetic actions throughout Syria & Iraq. He redeployed back to 3d LSB in May 2023, promoted to the rank of Major in July 2023, and executed PCS orders to Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Georgia. Major Hinsdale served as the Staff Secretary (SSEC) to the Commanding General of Marine Corps Logistics Command from September 2023 to July 2024. Upon completion of his rotational tour as the SSEC, Major Hinsdale was assigned to Marine Depot Maintenance Command where he served as the Executive Officer/Operations Officer. In June 2026, Major Hinsdale executed PCS orders to MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina where he currently serves as the Company Commander for Combat Logistics Company 23.
Major Hinsdale’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of a third award.
