Mission

8th Engineer Support Battalion task organizes forces in General Support (GS) to the MEF providing mobility, counter mobility, survivability, general engineering, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal IOT ensure a maneuver and tempo advantage.

Lieutenant Colonel William L. Riordon
Commanding Officer, 8th Engineer Support Battalion

Lt. Col. Riordon was commissioned in May 2008. Upon completion of The Basic School and Combat Engineer Officer Course, Lt. Col. Riordon was assigned to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He assumed responsibilities as the 3rd platoon commander, Company C, 2d CEB and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 11.1 with Third Battalion, Second Marine Regiment in February 2011. Following re-deployment, he was assigned as 2d CEB's assistant operations officer. In February 2012, he was assigned as the deputy officer in charge of a police advisor team. He deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.1 with Second Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment. Following re-deployment, he assumed command of Company B, 2d CEB in January 2013.

Executive Officer, 8th Engineer Support Battalion

Major Pierre K. Butler completed the Basic Officer's Course and the Combat Engineer Officer's Course in 2015. His first duty assignment was with 9th Engineer Support Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, where he initially served as the Battalion Training Officer before transferring to Engineer Company A as a Platoon Commander. There, he participated in Exercise Balikatan 16 and was responsible for leading combined and joint civic assistance construction projects in the Philippines.

Sponsorship Program

Ref: MCO 1320.11F

Personnel in the grades of E-1 through E-5, WO-1 through CWO-2, O-1 through O-3, and all accompanied OCONUS personnel will be assigned a sponsor.  Other service members will be assigned a sponsor upon request. The unit Sponsorship Coordinator will assist the transferring Service Member in requesting a sponsor form the gaining command using enclosure (1) NAVMC 11799 (11-11) (EF), Sponsorship request form.

Steps to request a sponsor:

1. Open and fill out the NAVMC 11799 (NAVMC 11798 as well if you have children).

2. Turn in the completed Sponsorship Request Form to your unit Sponsorship Coordinator.

3. Have your unit Sponsorship Coordinator contact the 8th ESB Sponsorship Coordinator at 910-450-8847.
